The project was initiated on the 2005 GC in Cartagena, Colombia, and reorganized on the 2005 SID in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The idea was to have one global IAESTE event taking place in many different countries. This is the international idea behind the concept of the "International IAESTE-Day": Local committee (LC) members, university staff and students as well as company representatives celebrating our organization world wide on one day.

In the first year LCs from six countries (Austria, Croatia, Germany, Macedonia, Poland and Turkey) participated with different events. On the 14th of July 2005 the National/Local committees of Vienna (Austria), Osijek (Croatia), Skopje (Macedonia), Warsaw (Poland) and Dresden (Germany) created formal events with representatives from industry, politics and university for a lot of people with big efforts. In Turkey the IAESTE Day was celebrated as part of the GetToGether in Istanbul, others participated with less formal events like informational evenings with a BBQ or a common cookout.

At all about 500 people celebrated the first IAESTE Day worldwide. After the evaluation it became obvious that the event was a success and a first step that definitely should be continued.

At SID 2006 in Glasgow (UK) a project group that deals with the improvement of that special IAESTE event was created and an international team, supported by national administrators, is now working on the coordination and development of the IAESTE Day to make it a constantly growing and prospering part of the IAESTE activities. Everybody should know what IAESTE is all about. So take the chance, participate and spread the ideas and the name of IAESTE worldwide.
